Since it has been awhile since I have posted a blog, I guess it is time to catch up. We are in the midst of a nor'easter as the locals "fondly" call a hugely ridiculous freakin snowstorm. I personally could stand a bit of snow as atmosphere for Christmas, then call the rest of winter off. Oh, should I have that power....
Gary and Sheri made the rather long trek to the house yesterday to visit and we have a heater and purchases I made from both Hannah and Sheri to exchange. The four of us went to lunch at one of few local restaurants, and had a grand time with our good natured waitress. Gary and Rodney were in their usual form, slinging shit and she was able to toss it back with a smile. Sheri and I just watched and laughed, as that is SOP when we are out together, and it wouldn't be the same without it. Sheri and Gary were kind enough to bring gifts for Christmas and one of the best ones was a beautiful basket that was handmade by women in Rwanda and filled with lots of wonderful treasures. Tealights, cookies and snacks. It was so thoughtful. Thank you both for your kindness.
As to the last couple of weeks, things have changed drastically for Rodney and his job. The employee buyout that was in the works for weeks fell through, and one of the owners was at the point of shutting down the business unless Rodney agreed to take on the enormous responsibility of becoming Operations Manager. I was very scared of that move since he had been in that position in his last job, and ended up over worked to the point of a stroke or just being burned out mentally and physically. I hesitantly agreed to support him in this, and told him that I would help him as much as I could in helping him turn the company around. Since the beginning of this month, I have been working in the office, learning as much as I can about the day to day operations of the office manager. So far, I like the work, and my mental attitude has improved. I don't have time to sit home all day and have a pity party. It's just enough to get me out of the house and not enough to overwhelm me. The company has a long row to how, so to speak, before it is out of the red, but it will be rewarding if we can overcome the obstacles and make the company profitable again. Only time will tell, and we will need all the luck and skill we have to make that happen.
